    MythiCalia registration open
Registration for this year's MythiCalia is now open. See the website at http://mythicalia.eristic.net for more details. After a little thought I've decided to offer different rates for single overnight ($20) and single day trip ($10) as well as the $40 rate for the entire weekend (Thursday through Monday, Sept. 22-26). I'm considering retiring the event after this year (depending on turnout), so if you've ever wanted to come, this could be your last chance!

    Feywood, Jul 21-24, Washington
Just wanted to send an update/reminder about Feywood, in case anyone else is mobile enough to get up there. There's now about four or five weeks left to register for the gather. The schedule is filling out a bit and so far we are up to about ten people. While at this point I doubt I'm going to double that (as I'd originally hoped), every warm body helps in making "critical mass" occur, which makes things more fun for everyone! So if perchance you've merely been waffling, let me know if there's anything that might convince you... ;)

    MythiCalia 5
    Oh, and by the way...

This year's MythiCalia will be on September 22-26th (Thurs-Sun), at a location on the central coast (a bit further south than usual). This year we have camping only and the site fee will be $40 per person for the whole weekend, plus $8 per car entrance fee (paid to the park). As usual it is BYO food and drink. Registration will be open in June. See the website for more details and for a link to the mailing list.

taking over the comm... probably not.
It is my belief that the maintainer of this community, [info]demorsos, is no longer around to handle it, since xir journal was last updated in October 2004. I would like to be able to take over and clean up the profile a bit, add some more relevant interests (like oh I dunno California), maybe put it in the directory... things that could help people find the comm. But since the LJ FAQ on the topic says that they're not likely to do anything unless there's a situation in the community that demonstrates the need for an active mod (like rampant spam), I doubt if I will get any satisfaction in this case. Would anyone be interested in moving to a new community for the purpose? A couple viable usernames appear to be available.

    MythiCalia 4
This year's MythiCalia will be held on September 23rd-26th (Thurs-Sun) at a location north of Mount Hamilton, a bit southeast of the San Francisco Bay area. Both tent camping and cabin spaces are available and we'll have a variety of workshops/discussions/etc. as well as time to just hang around. The reg fee for the whole event is $36 for tent or $66 for cabin space. You can check out the website at http://eristic.net/fey/gather/ for more details or just email me any questions. I hope to see you there!

    Where is everyone?
There's got to be people still alive in California.

I'm trying my hardest to find therians and otherkin alike to meet, great, and possible befriend, learn and open my eyes to more of this world and outside of it.

A quick thing about me. I'm male, 22 (right now), a polytherian (leopard, dromaeosaur, hawk??,tegu??), and live in Fremont. Interests? Anime, Video Games, in the fur fandom, books, writing, art, outside.

I'm actually a calm fellow, unless wild fun is happening, and I just want to reach out, because honestly? I'm tired of just not knowing anyone here in CA.

Let's see about one-on-one meets, a small group, or even a large gather. Dream would be a regular gathering.

    Let's go, my fellow 'kin.

With about eight weeks to go until MythiCalia, I just wanted to send out a wake-up ping. I haven't said much of anything since opening registration nearly three months ago, so I thought registering might have slipped off people's mental radar. If you've been thinking "eh, I should get around to that", no time like the present :)

I am also still in need of workshops as the entire schedule is still empty. If you are interested in presenting something, you can check the box on the form when you register, or send me an email (starlightforest@livejournal.com works).

Quick details on this year's event, if you've missed them:

Date: Thursday - Sunday, Sept. 24-27
Location: County park in the SF Bay peninsula, not far from where we were in 2007; exact details on paid registration

    MythiCalia gather needs more folks!
I haven't harped on this in a while, but I'm starting to get a little worried that we may not get enough registrations to prevent having to cancel. We need at least 10 by August 28th and there are only 3 right now (besides myself). So if you were thinking of coming, please register as soon as you can commit to the date. Hope to see you there!

(If you have no idea what I am talking about: MythiCalia is a camping gather hopefully taking place on Sept 14-16 in the San Francisco Bay area. You can check out the gather website at http://eristic.net/fey/gather/ for more details.)

MythiCalia -- September gather in California
Are you on the west coast? (If not, given this comm, what is your definition of "California" that it doesn't include the west coast...?)

Are you annoyed that it seems all the otherkin gathers are on the east coast? (Actually there's two in Texas, but that's still a fair jaunt. And double actually, there's one in Washington this year called Company of Others. But this is my plug post, durnit!)

Well, then have I got the thing for you!

On Friday to Sunday, September 14th-16th, MythiCalia will be held at Huddart County Park near the town of Woodside, California. Cost per person for the weekend is $25. You can get more details and register at the website. If you think you might want to come but are not sure, need to talk about equipment borrowing or an airport pickup or whatever, you might want to join the mailing list.

If you'd like to lead a workshop or discussion, I'm all ears. There's some slots on the schedule which are basically "well, we'll do this if I can't get anyone to do something of their own", and I'd rather fill them in with personal presentations if I can.

    Hope to see you there!

South Bay meet, Saturday, April 1st
I've just updated information for the South Bay Mini-Meet on the various email list calendars, its entry at Otherkin.net, and on my website. Unless someone else picks up the reins of this particular meet for May, Saturday, April 1st will be the last mini-meet in the south San Francisco Bay until someone else starts one, and who the heck knows when that will be *grin*. If you have been thinking to yourself "but I don't want to go sit in a coffee shop and talk about this" (for whatever reason), rejoice; this meet will be at a private residence, so we'll be a bit freer to talk about whatever interests us. Or, who knows but what we might just watch a movie. Either way, don't worry about not having anything to say; the more the louder, if you will. The location is still in Union City and the time is still 7-10 PM (leave any time you like, but please indicate if you will be late). Contact me at tass at livejournal.com if you are interested in attending.

    Final Information Gathering
Good afternoon or what have you.

It has been a while since I have posted here though I have enjoyed reading the various thoughtful and interesting posts that have been offered since.

First of all, thank you all for the responses I have received to date. I have spent months compiling and working through the information collected from my last surveys numbering nearly 400 responses. The amount of assistance has been overwhelming and I am incredibly happy to see such a high level of support.

I also apologize for the level of crossposting but I do wish to get as many of the livejournal communities as I may for there are individuals who belong to only one or another but do not have huge mass membership.

Following is the last survey that I will need for my work. The questions are slightly broader in scope and several will require some thought. There is reason behind each and every one. I have spent the last month and a bit fine tuning the survey and adding questions after conferring with a number of very wise people (both otherkin and human).

I have had some strong interest in the book from several publishers and I am currently looking into which will offer the best price to the buyer as well as the widest possible distribution.

You may answer the survey here OR you may email it directly to kinresearch@gmail.com if you wish to keep your answers private. Information is not shared beyond the core research unless you answer the "bonus" question.

    Hollow Hills
Just wanted to remind everyone that there is just 10 days left to pre-register for Hollow Hills, the California otherkin gather on November 4th-6th. You can still decide to come after that, but the fee "at the gate" is a bit higher. See the gather website here - http://www.eristic.net/fey/gather/

    ok ok ok
Well I decided to join because I want to meet more 'kin people. I'm planning on going to the fabulous gather that [info]arethinn is planning, but I would love to meet with 'kin people anytime! Anyone in Berkeley, San Francisco or Oakland that wants to get coffee or tea or spring rolls?

(I'd also love to get more 'kin on my friends list too!)

California gather going down the tubes... save it!
(apologies to those of you who get this twice, and to those of you who are already well aware of this)

Now is your last chance to help me get enough numbers to actually make a gather happen this year in California. Various folks out here have been trying this for about three years now, and keep failing due to lack of enough interested/committed people in a small enough area. It looks like we're headed for that territory yet again. :(

What: Camping gather (if you have no equipment, we could still accomodate you if we got enough people committed to be able to afford the site that offers cabins and rental cooking equipment, etc)

Where: Four different sites are currently under consideration, but all are in the "redwood region" on the Peninsula (between San Francisco and Santa Cruz)

When: A weekend between September 16th and October 28th

Cost: Hopefully around $30 per person, excluding food and travel, but getting the numbers is a major factor in what the cost turns out to be

If you don't drive: We may be able to work something out with a combination of public transit and pickup. Don't despair on that count.

If you can make a serious commitment to attending, please email me at tass @ livejournal.com no later than Friday, August 5 (due to advance time needed to reserve site) with the following information:
    • How much you can afford to pay for site fee (remember, separate from food and travel)
    • Whether you have any date conflicts with any of these dates: Sept 16-18, Sept 23-25, Sept 30-Oct 2, Oct 7-9, Oct 14-16, Oct 21-23, Oct 28-30. (all dates are Friday-Sunday)
Hope to hear from you. (Yeah, I know this sounds like short notice - August 5th she wants? - but I had been hoping to squeeze enough out of the 16 or so people I emailed directly in mid-July. Unfortunately that didn't happen.)

    Pleeeeeeeeease?

    What are the physical boundaries?
I'm joining this community to keep in touch with groups of otherkin.

As a question, what is the general area of California covered in the community? Because I'll be moving to Santa Cruz (as a inbound UCSC student), and would like to know if any gatherings will be arranged up there.

Oh, and I'm a dragon otherkin. I might add more detail later. I'm... just not up to it right now.

P.S.: the community's info page has some images that obviously don't exist at those URLs.

P.P.S: I've found some very good art sites, and I think I'll just start with this one: Lunatic Dragon- talented, japanese, and has a japanese version of his site. If you want the newer updates and faster loading times, visit the japanese location, a link to which is on the left bar of the page, just below the symbol.

    what, another mailing list??
Yes, but the multiplication of entities with regards to regional lists is somehow less annoying. ;)

I figure most of you are going to get this twice, but there may be someone on this community that isn't on [info]otherkin, and here especially would be people I want to reach,...so.

Violin Goddess, who hides way up in the northwest coastal area of California, has started a regional otherkin list specifically for northern California (Bay area to Oregon border). The main impetus for this is that the general WestKin list seemed to be covering way too large an area to actually be effectual in trying to plan a gather (hard to agree on a site when you have people ~1200 miles away from each other and neither of them can travel more than 50..). So if you are in this region, or perhaps very close by, I encourage you to join so maybe we can actually make this thing happen for once! (we've been trying since oh... 2001 or 2002...)

The site for the list is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nor_cal_otherkin .

(amusing trivia bit: to make sure my number for the length of the west coast was about right, I plugged "Seattle, WA, to San Diego, CA" into MapQuest. dig these directions: "Get on I-5. Drive for 1255 miles. You are now in San Diego." no, really.)

    A Request for Information
In the research phase for writing a book on otherkin a lot of information needs to be gathered. Please consider taking a moment to answer these basic questions. All questions are optional and please do not attach your name (emails and livejournal names will be stripped from the entries for processing).

    Year of Birth:
    Gender:
    Nationality:
    Country of Residence:
    Current career/occupation:
    Religion:
Age at which you "awakened" (or began the process):

    Do you believe in reincarnation?:

If you are uncomfortable answering here please feel free to email me at kinresearch@gmail.com

Additionally, I require a large accumulation of information to form a baseline foundation. Please feel free to email this to any otherkin you know who is not on livejournal: distribute personally or to email lists as you wish. All answers can be returned to me at kinresearch@gmail.com

Thank you very much for your response.
